Harvest Monday June 2, 2025
It’s time for Harvest Monday, where gardeners from all over celebrate all things harvest related. It was a busy week here for me, and I got a lot of gardening done and more plants in the ground. I also got the climbing pole beans sowed, just before it rained again and gave them a good soaking and got them off to a good start. We wound up with 7.6 inches of rain in May, which came on the heels of over 11 inches in April. The ground is still quite wet, but I hope to get the rest of the vegetable planting done in the next week or so. That said, the lettuce in the greenhouse has been sheltered from the weather, and continues to give us big and tasty heads for our salads.
And speaking of salads, I have been enjoying my salad bowl creations lately. With lettuce and other salad greens on the bottom, and topped with cucumbers, fruits, beans and cheese for protein they make for a hearty and filling meal. My greenhouse planting of cukes has begun blooming, and we should have our own here soon. I did not get around to sowing radish seeds this spring, however I have a lot of kohlrabi planted which will give us crunch for our salads soon.
We made the last cutting of asparagus here last week. It has had a good run this year, and we got almost 16 pounds of it in all. I used some of the smaller spears in a stir fry last week that we served up over black rice.
And I made another cutting of the Green Curls baby kale I have growing in a container. I am quite happy with how this one has done for me this year, and it has proven to be very useful in the kitchen as well.
In the future harvests department, the container eggplants are beginning to bloom. They typically keep us well supplied until the in-ground plantings begin bearing. I have six plants this year, two each of Fairy Tale, Gretel and Icicle – all AAS Winners and favorites of mine.
Harvest Monday is a day to show off your harvests, how you are saving your harvest, or how you are using your harvest. If you have a harvest you want to share, add your name and blog link to Mr Linky below. And please check out what everyone is harvesting!
